For Carlos (CA)
I was arrested when I was 17 years old, and I have been in prison for over 30 yrs.; 20 yrs. of that was spent in solitary confinement, 90% of which I did in the windowless cells of Pelican Bay State Prison. In that barren wasteland memories served to stimulate the mind, and one of the images that I would often recall was the red sun lit sky at sunset on the Southern California coast. Growing up it was one of my favorite sights, and the dream of seeing it once again was a welcomed respite from the emptiness of the SHU.
